Tylox

Tylox is a prescription analgesic combining a semi-synthetic opioid (oxycodone) with acetaminophen, designed for the short-term relief of moderate to moderately severe pain when non-opioid analgesics are inadequate. The brand name Tylox itself has been discontinued in some markets, but the combination of oxycodone 5 mg + acetaminophen 500 mg remains an established pain-relief formulation in generic products on the market.

Active Ingredients (per capsule):

• Oxycodone hydrochloride 5 mg – a centrally acting opioid analgesic

• Acetaminophen 500 mg – non-opioid analgesic and antipyretic

Indications:
Tylox (oxycodone/acetaminophen) combinations are prescribed for the management of moderate to severe pain when alternative treatments (e.g., NSAIDs or acetaminophen alone) are insufficient.

How It Works:

• Oxycodone acts on mu-opioid receptors in the central nervous system to reduce pain perception.

• Acetaminophen enhances pain relief and reduces fever through central analgesic mechanisms.
  Together, they offer synergistic relief for pain requiring opioid therapy.

Dosage & Administration:

• Take one capsule orally every 6 hours as needed for pain or as directed by a healthcare provider.

• Dosage may be adjusted based on pain severity and individual response.

• Do not exceed the recommended acetaminophen limit (typically ≤ 4 g/day) to avoid liver injury.

Safety & Precautions:

• Prescription Only: Oxycodone/acetaminophen formulations are Schedule II controlled substances requiring medical oversight.

• Risk of Dependence & Abuse: Oxycodone carries significant risk for addiction and misuse; use strictly as prescribed.
