Metadate CD is a central nervous system (CNS) stimulant that uses a specialized Diffucaps® bead delivery system to provide a long-acting effect for the treatment of ADHD. Each capsule contains a specific 30:70 ratio of beads: 30% of the dose consists of immediate-release beads to provide an initial peak in focus within the first hour, while the remaining 70% are extended-release beads that dissolve more slowly to provide a second, sustained peak roughly three to five hours later.

METADATE CD is a central nervous system (CNS) stimulant. The extended-release capsules comprise both immediate-release (IR) and extended-release (ER) beads such that 30% of the dose is provided by the IR component and 70% of the dose is provided by the ER component.

What Are Side Effects of Metadate CD?

Common side effects of Metadate CD include:

headache,
stomach pain,
loss of appetite,
weight loss,
trouble sleeping (insomnia),
dizziness,
nausea,
vomiting,
irritability,
nervousness,
blurred vision or other vision problems,
dry mouth,
constipation,
sweating,
skin rash,
numbness/tingling/cold feeling in your hands or feet,
blue fingers or toes, or
(rarely) drowsiness.
Metadate CD may raise your blood pressure. Check your blood pressure regularly and tell your doctor if the results are high.

Seek medical care or call 911 at once if you have the following serious side effects:

Serious eye symptoms such as sudden vision loss, blurred vision, tunnel vision, eye pain or swelling, or seeing halos around lights;
Serious heart symptoms such as fast, irregular, or pounding heartbeats; fluttering in your chest; shortness of breath; and sudden dizziness, lightheadedness, or passing out;
Severe headache, confusion, slurred speech, arm or leg weakness, trouble walking, loss of coordination, feeling unsteady, very stiff muscles, high fever, profuse sweating, or tremors.

Dosage for Metadate CD

The recommended starting dose of Metadate CD is 20 mg once daily. Dosage may be adjusted in weekly 10-20 mg increments to a maximum of 60 mg/day, depending upon tolerability and effectiveness.

Metadate CD During Pregnancy or Breastfeeding

Metadate CD should be used only when prescribed during pregnancy. It is not known whether this drug passes into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breastfeeding.
