Kapvay Clonidine ER

Kapvay is a prescription medicine supplied as an extended-release tablet and is used to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).

Your doctor may prescribe Kapvay alone or together with certain other ADHD medicines.

What Are Side Effects of Kapvay?

Kapvay may cause serious side effects including:

• hives,
• difficulty breathing,
• swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat,
• fainting,
• slow or irregular hearbeat,
• mood changes,
• irritability,
• depression, and
• severe dizziness

Get medical help right away, if you have any of the symptoms listed above.

Common side effects of Kapvay include:

• drowsiness,
• headache,
• fatigue,
• upper respiratory tract infection,
• irritability,
• anxiety,
• sore throat,
• dizziness,
• insomnia,
• nightmares,
• emotional disorder,
• constipation,
• diarrhea,
• abdominal pain,
• nausea,
• nasal congestion,
• asthma,
• increased body temperature,
• dry mouth,
• thirst,
• tremor,
• ear pain,
• daytime urinary frequency,
• bed wetting,
• aggression,
• tearfulness,
• slow heart rate,
• increased heart rate, and
• decreased appetite.

Seek medical care or call 911 at once if you have the following serious side effects:

• Serious eye symptoms such as sudden vision loss, blurred vision, tunnel vision, eye pain or swelling, or seeing halos around lights;
• Serious heart symptoms such as fast, irregular, or pounding heartbeats; fluttering in your chest; shortness of breath; and sudden dizziness, lightheadedness, or passing out;
• Severe headache, confusion, slurred speech, arm or leg weakness, trouble walking, loss of coordination, feeling unsteady, very stiff muscles, high fever, profuse sweating, or tremors.

Dosage for Kapvay

The dose of Kapvay is individualized according to the needs and response of the patient. Dosing is initiated with one 0.1 mg tablet at bedtime, and the daily dosage is adjusted in increments of 0.1 mg/day at weekly intervals until the desired response is achieved.

What Drugs, Substances, or Supplements Interact with Kapvay?

Kapvay may interact with alcohol, barbiturates or other sedating drugs, antidepressants, digitalis, calcium channel blockers, beta-blockers, other products containing clonidine, or antihypertensive drugs. Tell your doctor all medications and supplements you use.

Kapvay During Pregnancy and Breastfeeding

During pregnancy, Kapvay should be used only if prescribed. This drug passes into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breastfeeding.
