Lisinopril Medication Description

Lisinopril is an angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor often prescribed to manage high blood pressure (hypertension). It can also be used as a standalone treatment. Or combined with other antihypertensive medications to achieve optimal blood pressure control. By blocking the activity of ACE, lisinopril helps relax and widen blood vessels. Making it easier for blood to flow and reducing strain on the heart.

Lisinopril has been shown to lower the risk of serious complications such as stroke, heart attack, and kidney damage associated with blood pressure issues. It may also be prescribed for individuals with heart failure or following a heart attack to improve survival and heart function.

Lisinopril Side Effects

Side effects may include headache, dizziness, cough, and high potassium levels. If a drug-induced cough occurs, stop taking the medication and seek medical attention immediately. Avoid excessive consumption of potassium containing foods, potassium supplements, and salt substitutes with potassium.

How To Use: Typically taken once daily, with or without food. Dosage may range from 5 mg to 40 mg per day based on individual response. Initial effects may be seen within hours, with full blood pressure-lowering benefits often achieved within 2–4 weeks.

Precautions: May cause dizziness or lightheadedness, especially after the first dose. Regular monitoring of kidney function and potassium levels is advised.
