Mechanism of action:

Journavx acts through the selective blocking of sodium channel Nav1.8, which is present on pain-sensing nerve cells, or neurons, to prevent pain signals from traveling to “the spinal cord and brain.”

What dosage of Journavx do I use?

Swallow the Journavx tablets whole; do not chew or break the tablets.
Your first dose will normally be 100mg and should always be taken on an empty stomach, that is, 1 hour before eating or 2 hours after eating. However, you could consume clear fluids such as vegetable soup, tea, black coffee, or apple juice.
Dose should be started at 50 mg, which should be taken 12 hours after the initial dose, then 50 mg orally every 12 hours.
Your treatment may need to be adjusted if you have a weakened liver or if you are taking other medications
This medication should ideally be taken for the shortest period possible.

Storage:

Store at room temperature between 68º F to 77º F (20º C to 25º)

Strong inhibitors of CYP3A:

It should not be concomitantly administered with medications that are potent inhibitors of CYP3A due to a drug interaction. You may ask your healthcare provider to confirm this if you have doubts.
Substrates of the CYP3A enzyme

If a medication is a substrate of the CYP3A enzyme, it might work less effectively when undergoing Journavx therapy, and a dose adjustment may be required by the prescribing doctor.

Other hormonal contraceptives (birth control) with progestins other than levonorgestrel or norethindrone might be less effective when taking Journavx. you should use another form of nonhormonal birth control or another type of hormonal birth control when taking Journavx.
