Livostin (Levocabastine Hydrochloride) Nasal Spray

Product Information:

Livostin nasal spray is a medicinal nasal spray used to relieve allergy-related symptoms in the nose. It contains levocabastine hydrochloride which is an antihistamine — a type of medicine that blocks histamine, a chemical the body releases in response to allergens (like pollen, dust, pet dander).

Uses:

• Seasonal allergic rhinitis (hay fever)

• Perennial (year-round) allergic rhinitis.

How It Works:

Levocabastine in the spray blocks H1 histamine receptors in the nasal lining. By doing this, it quickly reduces the effects of histamine released during allergic reactions — often within minutes — and provides relief that lasts hours. 

It works locally in the nose, so systemic side effects (like drowsiness) are relatively uncommon compared with oral antihistamines

Dosage:

• Adults and children ≥ 6 years:
  2 sprays in each nostril, twice a day (morning and evening)

• If symptoms are more severe, doses may be increased to 2 sprays per nostril, 3–4 times per day.

• Do not use for longer than 8 weeks continuously without medical advice.

Warnings:

• For nasal use only — do not inhale deeply into lungs or swallow. 

• Not recommended in children under 6 years unless prescribed by a physician. 

• If symptoms do not improve within a few days or worsen, consult a healthcare provider.

• Ask your doctor before use if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. 

• Use with caution in kidney impairment because levocabastine is primarily eliminated by the kidneys.

Side Effects:

Most people tolerate Livostin well, but some may experience mild side effects, such as:

• Nasal irritation, burning, dryness

• Sneezing after spraying

• Mild headache

• Throat irritation

• Rarely: drowsiness or nosebleeds

• (Very rarely) swelling or rash
