Product Information:
Ibrance is the brand name for palbociclib, a CDK4/6 inhibitor. It works by blocking proteins called CDK4 and CDK6, which cancer cells need to divide and grow. By inhibiting these proteins, Ibrance slows down cancer growth.
Uses:
HR-positive (hormone receptor-positive) and HER2-negative advanced or metastatic breast cancer in combination with hormone therapy (like letrozole or fulvestrant).
How to Take Ibrance:
Form: Oral capsules.
Typical dose: Usually 125 mg once daily for 21 consecutive days, followed by 7 days off (28-day cycle). Dose may be adjusted based on side effects.
With food: Take with or without food, preferably at the same time each day.
Important: Swallow capsules whole. Do not crush, chew, or open them.
Monitoring: Your doctor will check your blood counts regularly because Ibrance can lower white blood cells.
Warnings:
Blood cell problems: Can cause low neutrophils (risk of infection), anemia, or low platelets.
Liver problems: Monitor liver function; dosage may need adjustment if liver enzymes rise.
Lung problems: Rarely, can cause interstitial lung disease or pneumonitis.
Pregnancy/Breastfeeding: Can harm a fetus. Use effective contraception and avoid breastfeeding.
Drug interactions: Avoid strong CYP3A inhibitors or inducers (like certain antifungals, antibiotics, or anticonvulsants) unless your doctor adjusts your dose.
