DEMEROL 100mg

Demerol is a synthetic opioid analgesic for the short-term relief of moderate to severe pain. It acts on mu-opioid receptors in the CNS, altering the perception and response to pain. Administered orally, IM, SC, or IV, dosing is clinician-directed and ranges typically 50–150 mg every 3–4 hours as needed.

Indications:

• Acute post-surgical pain

• Severe trauma-related pain

• Short-term obstetric analgesia

Safety & Precautions:

• Schedule II controlled substance — high abuse and dependence potential

• Risk of respiratory depression and CNS effects

• Not recommended for chronic use due to neurotoxicity risk (normeperidine accumulation)

• Contraindicated in severe respiratory disease, hypersensitivity to opioids, or concurrent MAOI therapy

Side Effects:
Nausea, vomiting, sedation, dizziness, constipation, risk of profound respiratory depression in severe cases.
