GARDASIL®9 is the 9-valent human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine that protects against nine HPV types most commonly linked to cervical, anal, penile, and oropharyngeal cancers, as well as genital warts. The vaccine is typically given as a two-dose series for adolescents (if started before 15) or a three-dose series for older teens and adults, with timing based on CDC recommendations.
Out-of-pocket cost depends on insurance coverage. Many private insurance plans and government programs cover the vaccine. For uninsured or underinsured patients, there may be assistance programs available. Common side effects are mild injection-site pain, fever, or dizziness. Vaccination is most effective if given before exposure to HPV.
