Invokana 300 (Canagliflozin)

Product Information:

Invokana is an oral prescription medication used to treat type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults by helping lower blood sugar. It belongs to a class of drugs called SGLT2 inhibitors, which work in the kidneys to remove glucose (sugar) from the bloodstream via urine.

Invokana also may help reduce the risk of certain serious complications of diabetes, such as heart attack, stroke, heart-related death, and worsening kidney disease in people with cardiovascular or kidney conditions.

How to Take It

• Take by mouth once daily, usually before your first meal of the day.

• Swallow the tablet whole with water. 

• Take it at the same time each day to help you remember.

Dosage:

• Starting dose: 100 mg once daily. 

• Higher dose (300 mg): Your doctor may increase your dose to 300 mg once daily only if:

  • You have tolerated the lower dose, and

  • Your kidneys are functioning well enough (eGFR ≥ 60 mL/min/1.73 m²).

• Maximum recommended: 300 mg per day

Warnings:

• People with severe kidney disease or on dialysis.

• People with type 1 diabetes. 

• People allergic to canagliflozin

Side Effects:

These are more frequent but usually less severe:

• Increased urination

• Genital yeast infections

• Urinary tract infections

• Thirst, nausea, constipation

• Dizziness (due to low blood pressure)
