Nesina 25 mg (Alogliptin)

Product Information:

Nesina is a prescription medicine used to manage type 2 diabetes. It belongs to the DPP-4 inhibitor class.

How it works:

• Increases natural hormones called incretins, which:

  • Stimulate insulin release after meals

  • Reduce sugar production in the liver

• Works only when blood sugar is high, so the risk of low blood sugar alone is low.

How to take Nesina:

• Oral tablet, once daily, with or without food

• Take at the same time every day

• Swallow whole with water

• Keep following diet and exercise plans recommended by your doctor

If you miss a dose:

• Take it as soon as you remember

• Skip it if it’s almost time for your next dose

• Do not double doses

Dosage:

• Typical adult dose: 25 mg once daily

• Kidney problems: Dose may need adjustment for severe kidney disease

• Children/teens: Safety and effectiveness under 18 not established

Warnings:

Talk to your healthcare provider if you have:

• Pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas)

• Kidney or liver problems

• Heart problems

• History of allergic reactions to DPP-4 inhibitors

Side effects:

Common side effects:

• Headache

• Stuffy or runny nose

• Sore throat

• Cold-like symptoms

Serious but rare side effects:

• Pancreatitis

• Severe joint pain

• Allergic reactions (swelling, rash, trouble breathing)

• Low blood sugar when combined with certain diabetes drugs
