Percodan

Percodan is a prescription opioid analgesic combination containing oxycodone hydrochloride (a potent opioid pain reliever) and aspirin (a non-opioid anti-inflammatory and analgesic). It is prescribed for the management of moderate to severe acute pain when other non-opioid analgesics are insufficient. Percodan’s formulation leverages synergy between oxycodone’s central pain-modulating effects and aspirin’s peripheral anti-inflammatory action to relieve pain that may not respond adequately to either component alone.

Active Ingredients (typical formulation):

• Oxycodone Hydrochloride ~4.8355 mg – opioid receptor agonist for central pain control

• Aspirin 325 mg – non-opioid analgesic and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID)

Indications:

• Acute moderate to severe pain (e.g., post-surgical pain, traumatic injury).

• Dependence & Abuse: Long-term use may lead to physical dependence and addiction; use only as prescribed.

• Gastrointestinal Risk: Aspirin increases risk of GI irritation, ulceration, bleeding, and may affect clotting.

• Contraindications: Severe respiratory dysfunction, acute asthma, known NSAID/aspirin hypersensitivity, and in patients with bleeding disorders.

Side Effects:
Common adverse effects may include nausea, vomiting, constipation, dizziness, sedation, headache, and GI discomfort. Serious effects require immediate medical attention.
