Precose 100 mg (Acarbase)

Product Information:

Precose is the brand name for acarbose, a prescription oral medication used to help control high blood sugar in type 2 diabetes. It belongs to a class called alpha‑glucosidase inhibitors. Acarbose works in the small intestine by slowing the breakdown of complex carbohydrates into simple sugars, helping reduce blood sugar spikes after meals.

How to Take Precose:

Frequency: Usually taken three times a day — with the first bite of each main meal (breakfast, lunch, dinner).

Swallow whole: Do not crush or chew the tablet. 

Timing is important: Taking it with the first bite helps it act when carbohydrates start being absorbed.

Missed dose: If you forget a dose, take it as soon as you remember only if it’s not almost time for your next one. Do not double up

Before using Precose, talk with your doctor if you have any of the following conditions:

Who shouldn’t take it?

• Allergy to acarbose. 

• Diabetic ketoacidosis. 

• Liver disease or cirrhosis. 

• Inflammatory bowel disease, colonic ulceration, or intestinal obstruction

Side Effects:

Many people tolerate Precose well, but some side effects can occur — especially early in treatment: 

• Gas (flatulence)

• Diarrhea

• Belly pain / bloating
  These often occur in the first few weeks and may lessen over time.
