Robitussin AC Syrup

Product Information:

Robitussin AC syrup is used for short-term relief of cough with chest congestion.

It contains:

• Codeine – an opioid cough suppressant that reduces the brain’s cough reflex

• Guaifenesin – an expectorant that helps loosen and thin mucus in the airways

How to Take:

• Take only as prescribed by your doctor.

• Measure each dose carefully using a dosing cup or oral syringe.

• May be taken with or without food (take with food if stomach upset occurs).

• Drink plenty of fluids to help guaifenesin work effectively.

• Do not use with alcohol or other medicines that cause drowsiness unless approved by a doctor.

Dosage:

• Adults: Commonly taken every 4–6 hours as needed for cough, for a short period only.

• Children & teens: Not recommended, especially under 18, due to serious risk of breathing problems from codeine.

Warnings:

• Opioid risk: Codeine may cause slow or difficult breathing, dependence, or misuse.

• Not for children/teens: Higher risk of life-threatening breathing problems.

• Avoid use if you have severe asthma, lung disease, or a history of opioid misuse unless a doctor decides otherwise.

• Dangerous interactions may occur with alcohol, sleep medicines, sedatives, or other opioids.

• Pregnancy & breastfeeding: Codeine can harm infants—discuss risks with a healthcare provider.

• See a doctor if cough lasts more than 5–7 days, worsens, or occurs with fever or rash.
