Testosterone gel (AndroGel, Testim)

Testosterone gel is a transdermal testosterone replacement option that permits daily application of testosterone via the skin (typically arms, shoulders, or abdomen), offering an alternative to injections. This format is often selected by patients who prefer to avoid intramuscular injections and by clinicians aiming for smoother hormone level fluctuations. As per guidelines, testosterone therapy is indicated for men with verified low serum testosterone and associated symptoms such as fatigue, low libido, muscle weakness, mood alterations, and bone loss. With consistent application, testosterone gel can help address many of these symptoms—improving sexual desire, increasing energy, supporting lean muscle mass and bone health. That said, it’s important to emphasise that testosterone therapy is not approved for simply “feeling tired” or age-related low testosterone without evidence of deficiency or symptoms. The gel must be applied to clean, dry skin, allowed to dry fully, and patients should avoid skin contact with others (especially children) until dry.
