Testosterone patches (Androderm)

Testosterone patches are a transdermal hormone delivery system where small adhesive patches are applied to the skin (often the back, abdomen or thigh) and deliver controlled amounts of testosterone continuously over the patch duration. This method allows for daily or alternate-day application depending on the product and dosing schedule. For individuals with verified testosterone deficiency (hypogonadism) and associated symptoms, patches offer a non-injection, non-gel alternative with stable delivery. According to current clinical practice, testosterone replacement is indicated only for men with low testosterone confirmed by serial tests and relevant symptoms—not simply age-related testosterone decline.The patch form may benefit patients who wish to avoid gels (with risk of transfer) or injections, and may offer more consistent levels than some short-acting regimens. However, the same critical safety monitoring applies: haematocrit, lipid profile, prostate health, fertility, mood, cardiovascular status and others. Skin-site irritation or patch-adhesion problems may arise and should be managed. Despite the convenience, the patches cannot be used casually and require prescription, specialist oversight and long-term follow-up. In sum, testosterone patches are a valid option in testosterone replacement therapy when chosen appropriately and accompanied by comprehensive monitoring.
